I’m happy to share Martha’s maternity portraits with you! She was celebrating her third child on the way (a boy!). In the midst of the daily chaos of caring for two sweet daughters, she decided to take time out and do some quiet, reflective portraits nearby at a park in north Austin. I was super excited. Sometimes mommies need to take time for themselves! We picked a beautiful fall day and drove a short distance from her house. Martha wasn’t sure what to wear; she’s a very athletic, active person and practical…long flowy gowns aren’t her vibe. So I scrolled Amazon and sent her different suggestions, and she liked this simple wrap dress. The color was perfect! We had fun just walking around the park, enjoying the sunshine and finding different spots for pictures.
Maternity shoots can be tricky for a mom: the point is to capture that liminal moment right before a new person enters the world. We don’t always feel beautiful, and not very sexy. But motherhood is amazing, and a special honor. Maybe huge physical obstacles had to be overcome, and isn’t it worth it to be able to look back and say, “I did that”? You may not do it for every baby, and it’s a deeply personal choice of when to do one, if at all. But I’ve enjoyed each family who trusted me to photograph them. <3
