My Baby! (Newborn Portraits)

We. Are. Sunk. Several weeks ago we welcomed the newest member of our family into the world. It was the most wonderful, emotional, glorious, redemptive experience I’ve had in my life. I am so extremely proud of my daughter and my son-in-law. They are an amazing team. Ever since we knew they were expecting, I have been happily dreaming of this person entering from stage right and taking her place in the story of our family.

She is our first grandbaby; she is the first great-grandbaby for my parents, my husband’s parents, my late husband’s parents, and the first GIRL in my son-in-law’s family as far as grandbabies. Ohhh, my little ham n cheese. It’s hilarious to see my little brother and my husband so foolish for this tiny squeaking croissant. All we do is hold her and stare at her. We cannot get enough. And because we aren’t posting her on social media, I have unofficially taken on a second career as her Press Secretary, constantly texting family and friends the latest adorable photo of her sleeping. Leanne Morgan got it absolutely right when she refers to her grandbaby as “MY baby.

What is it about having a baby that is so great? I think it’s Hope. I think it’s starting over, and the promise of a new life. For me, it’s a big fat wonderful do-over…I was so young when I had my daughter and knew nothing, and HAD nothing. Now I’m old and wise and rich (ha!) and there is zero stress. And she is bringing comfort to our souls after losing some pretty special people to old age or illness or tragedy over the last couple of years. There is balm in Gilead. So, enjoy these photos of my baby’s fingers and toes (so magical! so small!!) because these tiny tiny hands are holding my entire world.
