This is my beautiful sister, Jenna, with her four-year-old rescue Frenchie, Paige. Paige was in Oklahoma in a foster home when my sister found her online. She literally drove to Oklahoma for this dog. As a person who is at best, neutral towards the canine species, I was amazed that anyone would drive so far for a mere dog. Jenna’s determination and then bloom of affection for this snorting, snoring, undisciplined, carpet-bombing dog was amazing. But seriously: this dog who’d spent her short life of three years in a cage being bred for puppies, was utterly transformed by love. And isn’t that what adoption is? Transforming someone by love.
We managed to eke out some time on a Sunday afternoon while I was spending a luxurious day doing NOTHING for some Christmas card portraits. Poor Paige was undone by all the traffic. She dragged Jenna all over the place. We realized we needed a quiet corner where she wouldn’t be so distracted. So here is my sister, with her “baby.”
Merry Christmas to all you dog lovers! And remember: Adopt–don’t shop!
