Lookout Mountain and Point Part, Chattanooga TN | Travel Photography

I took the opportunity this morning to buy a ticket on the Incline Railway to Lookout Mountain. Last week was so hazy due to air pollution from Canadian wildfires…this week is much more clear. I do advise during summer to go as early as possible. I’d just missed the 9:00am train; they run every thirty minutes. You can buy tickets online ($15 per person) or in person. Parking is $2. It’s a pretty cool experience, sitting in the car, slowly rolling up Lookout Mountain and watching Chattanooga spread out before you through the leafy canopy.

Once I took in the view from the observatory, I headed down the neighborhood street about three blocks to Point Park ($10 entrance fee, kids 15 & under are free). It’s a beautiful little spot with a couple of hiking trails going to Craven House and Sunset Rock. I tried hiking to Sunset Rock, however the kudzu was really overgrown at one point and honestly I was worried about snakes. So I turned around. Still got a fairly good (short) workout hitting all those stairs back up. Anyone can do this hike down the stairs and back if you have regular mobility; it’s just a couple of staircases. This is a historical Civil War site and there are several signs about the park describing battles fought. There’s also a tourist shop across the street from the park.

Rock City was four miles away and too far to walk. Hoping to hit it later this week with my hubby since we have to drive our car to get there. =) Enjoy the photos!
