Ok so how many grooms do you know decide to rock out their own wedding by playing in their own band during the reception??? That is exactly what Matt did for his bride, Stephanie! Having a rock n’ roll singer for a hubby instantly reminded me and my second photographer of “Andy” and “April” from Parks and Rec (MOUSE RAT!) which is what made Chris Pratt famous (in my opinion). There’s nothing cooler than a guy rocking out for his sweetheart and then she gets on stage and sings with him. They brought down the house, seriously. This chick can wail.
This Hotel Van Zandt wedding was a blast to be a part of. I love hotel weddings because everything is happening in one space (no lost time traveling from one venue to another), the staff are always excellent and efficient in what they do, and this hotel in particular has terrific areas for photos. The wedding couple have tons of nephews, and they are the cutest! Small people always make for good photos, and we had plenty of material. The smallest one grew impatient at the beginning of the ceremony, and finally cried out in exasperation, “It’s taking forever!!” Their oldest nephew braved speaking in front of the crowd to tell Aunt Stephanie, “We wuv you and welcome to the family.” I die!!! One other very special portrait I made sure to take which wasn’t on our list was a generational portrait of the bride with her mother and grandmother. The older I get, the more special this kind of portrait is to me. I love seeing three generations of beautiful women in a family celebrating such an important day!
Samantha with HVZ and Rosa with Austin Wedding Planners did a great job running their event and Bouquets of Austin provided stunning fluffy white florals, a really unique and modern spin on baby’s breath. Many thanks to Benjamin Garrett for assisting me! I love this new Austin hotel’s style, and hope to do many more happy events like this one there again!
