This is a fun post for me, because it’s personal. I am the world’s “okayest” CrossFitter, and had been a member of a north Austin CrossFit gym for two years. Sadly, it closed at the end of 2017, which would be devastating except that a couple of friends of mine who also worked out there opened their own CrossFit gym in January 2018! So most of us moved to the new location, a brand spanking new space with brand new equipment, two bathrooms, a shower, and lots more space. It was a little bittersweet, saying goodbye to a place with really great memories, but I was also excited for this new venture. Matt and Natalie Malone are the proud owners of Upreach CrossFit on Pond Springs Rd. Two words define this gym: Community, and Excellence. You’ll see staff photos here as well as the facility which I took for them in February. Saturday mornings hold free Community Workouts for any and all to try at 10:00am. Justin Adams, our lead coach, was voted Austin’s Best CrossFit Coach for 2017 and was in the Top 3 three years in a row! Come check us out! From Olympic weight-lifting to gymnastics like pull ups, push ups, hand stand walks and muscle ups, there is always something fun as well as challenging, no matter your age, fitness level or experience. I was scornful for years, until I tried it. No, I don’t wonder if I’ll make it to the Games next year, but golly this a place where everybody knows your name. And who wouldn’t love that?
