Oh how I have missed family portraits! I love weddings, but I began my business in 2010 as a portrait photographer first. As my daughter has now graduated college and been living on her own since 2013, it has really hit home how important it is to have portraits commemorating that sliver of time, that precious season of life while children are small. I recently ordered family portraits taken a few years ago for me by a good friend; we’ve moved several times and never had good wall space. But now we are happy home owners and I am ready to rock these walls!
My approach to family portraits is simple: dress in something comfortable that makes you feel good, show up ready to engage with one another in front of the camera while I chat with you and give some simple directions, and have fun! Don’t worry about whether your kids smile or not. Let them be natural. Let them be themselves. We’ll walk around and sit or stand in certain spots I’ve already picked out and quickly grab a variety of images both vertically and horizontally-oriented. Think about how you will display these portraits in your home. Over the fireplace? Over the couch in the living room? Maybe a wall in your bedroom or guestroom or home office. We’ll meet together again for an appointment to look at your images together, pick your favorites, and order wall prints or design a book that will be part of your family history. It’s that simple! And now you’ve got beautiful images of your favorite folks to show off every time someone comes to visit.
