Ah, this was such a fun wedding! Megan and Brandon have been together for years; they came back to Austin from their home base of Seattle for an intimate, low-key wedding in mid-December. Barr Mansion is one of my favorite wedding venues, and I loved Megan’s common-sense approach to their ceremony–“I’m not taking chances on the weather; it’ll be indoors.” No problem! Barr Mansion has a gorgeous new pavilion which is just the ticket for an indoor wedding, no matter the season or weather. With an exposed brick wall and tons of light, it’s the perfect palette for whatever you can dream up. Along with first-class organic, farm-to-table catering, Barr Mansion provided the perfect place for this nature-loving couple.
Megan had all kinds of fun details unique to them. She has a hobby of hand-painting shoes for herself and Brandon. He said this pair he was wearing at the wedding was his fourth. She’s got skills! She walked down aisle in fun tropical-print Tom’s wedges, but changed later into her own custom-painted Vans for a comfy reception. In addition, I loved her tiny jeweled necklace, her earrings, the delicate bracelet. All nods to their mutual love of nature…rocks and minerals, succulents and greenery. They planned on spending their honeymoon touring various national parks on the road trip back to Seattle. How can you beat that?! And for the piece de resistance, they included their sweet doggies! Both wore beautiful floral collars, and while a little nervous, they handled themselves just fine. Grandparents stayed on puppy patrol throughout the evening. After a laid-back, happy ceremony with a nod to Megan’s Jewish roots everyone moved to the main ballroom to enjoy dinner and a little dancing. Complete with the hora and a cotton candy station, it was exactly what Megan and Brandon had envisioned for their Big Day. Mazel tov, and congratulations, you two!
