Spring Break (Final Chapter): North Georgia

This is the final blog for our spring break trip last March. There were so many photos I took at this point in our journey, I decided to skip them and show them last.

My Aunt Evelyn lives about 20 minutes away from Watkinsville, GA, which is right next to Athens, GA. Home of the Georgia Bulldogs! Or, “Dawgs,” as we say. I have sooo many happy childhood memories of visits here. Now that I’m a grownup, my visits are rare. So this was a special part of our road trip for me! Evelyn graduated from the Lamar Dodd School of Art at UGA. When we were kids, she would do art projects with us, like making clay pinch pots. Fun! I was an art major at Valdosta State so we have a bit in common.

My BigDaddy helped build Evelyn’s house. It was his final project before his going on to glory in May 2001. Mom asked me specifically to take pictures of Evelyn’s horse and her dogs, since they are her family. I was happy to oblige. I also took a lot of photos of things in Evelyn’s house, things that definitely reflect her personality. I love her house.

This is so classic: we play Scrabble at our family reunion, and Evelyn always brings her Official Scrabble Dictionary. It can get pretty heated when two people contest the legitimacy of a word. I think Mom got 50 points one time, spelling “eh”.

This image in particular is important. This is Mary, Evelyn’s dog. She had injured her foreleg and was having to get around on three. They’ve had a long history together, and shortly before I edited these images, Mom told me that Evelyn had to put Mary down. I am so thankful I got this photo of Mary for her while I was there. undefined
